Jiddu Krishnamurti

(1895 - 1986)

In 1909, after his family moved to the grounds of the Theosophical Society, near Madras, the fourteen-year-old Jiddu Krishnamurti was proclaimed the “vehicle” of the promised World Teacher and a manifestation of the future Buddha—an identity he later rejected. “I maintain that truth is a pathless land,” he said in his abdication, “and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever.” For the rest of his life, he delivered speeches around the world advocating for the value of doubt.
