Ha Jin

In 2000 Ha Jin won the PEN/Faulkner Award for his novel Waiting, which also won the National Book Award. His career did not have an easy beginning. He bused tables and worked as a night watchman in a factory, preferring the latter to the former: “The factory was quiet, and I could read.”
